Why Patricia Chose the Apprenticeship.
Patricia wanted to deepen her knowledge as a Support Worker and build the skills to help people achieve their goals. In her words, “I chose this apprenticeship to enhance my knowledge and options. I wanted to learn new skills to best assist our service users in achieving their goals.”
Learning Experience and Key Skills.
Throughout her training Patricia has engaged with every topic and strengthened both technical and professional skills. She highlights “learning how to research and perfecting my writing skills” and notes that she has found all topics interesting. Day to day she is applying what she learns by paying closer attention to communication, observing overall wellbeing and noticing finer details. She focuses on building rapport and planning activities that meet individual needs and preferences. Patricia also points to the importance of support on programme, sharing, “You need time and dedication for this course. There is a good support system. My tutor has been a great support.”
Impact in the Workplace.
Patricia is translating learning into practice with clear results for the people she supports. She reports feeling more confident in her role and more deliberate in how she plans and delivers person centred interactions. “My dedication and being able to put my learning into practice” is what she is most proud of so far, alongside having a stronger understanding of the Lead Adult Care role.
Manager Perspective.
Patricia’s manager has seen a visible step forward in her approach and impact. “Patricia has developed a greater insight into supporting individuals in a person centred way. She is providing daily opportunities that enhance and maintain independence, choice and control. This recognition has filled Patricia with new enthusiasm and creativity.” They add that her growing confidence is evident in daily practice and that people supported are benefiting as new projects and positive engagement begin to surface. The result is fresh ideas, renewed enthusiasm and clearer development pathways for individuals.
Future Goals.
The apprenticeship has widened Patricia’s perspective on careers in care and opened up new opportunities. “It has given me a new perspective in a care environment. I have options to progress if I choose to and new job opportunities.” With completion due in January and a continuing role at Surrey Choices, Patricia is set to build on this momentum and keep growing in responsibility and scope.
