The Level 5 Leader in Adult Care apprenticeship is for people who lead care teams to make a positive difference to people facing physical, practical, social, emotional, psychological or intellectual challenges. You’ll manage community or residential services, build a values based culture, and make sure care is safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led, in roles such as registered manager, deputy or assistant manager.
You learn while you work. You’ll be assigned an assessor who regularly observes you at work and discusses your work, and you’ll work independently on assignments, reflective tasks and written work. Your apprenticeship includes the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Adult Care. To finish, an independent end point assessment includes an observation of leadership and a professional discussion, and your performance decides your overall grade. If you don’t yet have Level 2 English and maths, you’ll achieve them before your end point assessment.

Yes, the apprenticeship is free for the learner, with training costs covered through government apprenticeship funding or the employer’s Apprenticeship Levy. You must be employed in a suitable Adult Social Care role and your employer will need to support you throughout the apprenticeship.
It is a higher level apprenticeship designed for experienced Adult Social Care professionals who are responsible for leading and managing care services. The programme develops the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to manage teams, maintain high quality care and lead effective person centred services.
It is suitable for experienced care professionals working in a leadership or management role within Adult Social Care. Your role must give you sufficient responsibility and opportunities to demonstrate leadership, management and professional practice throughout the apprenticeship.
The apprenticeship can support progression into senior roles such as Adult Care Manager, Registered Manager, Service Manager or other leadership positions within Adult Social Care. It is particularly suited to people looking to develop their management responsibilities and progress within the care sector.
You will develop and demonstrate your knowledge, skills and behaviours throughout the programme while completing learning and workplace activities with support from your tutor and employer. At the end of the apprenticeship, you will complete an End Point Assessment to demonstrate that you meet the requirements of the apprenticeship standard.
