How It Works

Your training follows the national apprenticeship standard published by Skills England, which sets out the knowledge, skills and behaviours you’ll need to show. To finish, you’ll complete an end point assessment made up of unit tests and synoptic testing, and your performance decides your overall grade. If you don’t yet have Level 2 English and maths, you’ll achieve them before your end point assessment.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Level 3 Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship is a nationally recognised work based programme for individuals working in finance and accounting who want to develop advanced technical skills. It covers financial accounting, management accounting, tax processes, financial reporting, and business finance.

The main requirement is that you are employed in a suitable finance role where you can demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and behaviours required by the apprenticeship standard. Employers must provide workplace support and protected time for off the job training during paid working hours.

The apprenticeship typically takes around 15 months to complete. Apprentices remain employed throughout, receive support from a dedicated PTS tutor, and continue developing their accounting expertise within their day to day role.

Apprentices never pay for their training. For non-levy employers, the employer contribution is typically £600 plus VAT, with the government funding the remaining cost of the programme.

The apprenticeship leads to roles including Assistant Accountant, Finance Officer, Management Accounts Assistant, and Payroll Supervisor. It also provides a strong progression route to higher level accounting qualifications and professional status within the finance sector.
