The British Sign Language Level 2 course, delivered in partnership with the Royal Association for Deaf people (RAD), builds on your BSL skills. It’s for people who are deaf and use BSL as their first language, and for parents and carers of deaf people. Taught online by deaf qualified tutors, you’ll develop your receptive, productive and conversational signing and gain a recognised qualification with Signature.
You learn online through weekly sessions on Teams, taught by experienced and passionate deaf qualified tutors. The course runs for 3 hours a week over 15 weeks. You’re assessed in three ways: a receptive clip of around 25 minutes, a 3–5 minute presentation to your BSL trainer, and a 6–7 minute conversation with your trainer. We’re an approved centre with Signature, the UK’s leading awarding body for BSL, and deliver this course in partnership with the Royal Association for Deaf people.

BSL Level 2 at Professional Training Solutions builds on Level 1, helping you develop greater confidence, accuracy and fluency in British Sign Language. You'll expand your vocabulary and conversation skills across everyday, social and work related situations, and deepen your understanding of BSL grammar, sentence structure and Deaf culture. It's ideal if you regularly communicate with Deaf people through work, family or community, or want to progress to higher level BSL qualifications.
Funded BSL Level 1 is currently available for eligible adults aged 19+ LIVING in LONDON or WEST SUSSEX through our Adult Skills Fund (ASF) provision, subject to Greater London Authority funding rules. Priority is typically given to Deaf learners whose first language is BSL, and to parents, carers or family members of Deaf children. Deaf apprentices may also be able to take BSL as an approved alternative to Functional Skills English within their apprenticeship.
BSL Level 2 typically takes six to seven months, delivered through weekly 3 hour online sessions via Zoom, alongside independent study and practice. As BSL is a visual language, you'll need a suitable learning environment, reliable internet and a device with a working camera and microphone. Regular attendance and practice are essential to building the fluency and confidence needed to pass.
The Signature Level 2 Certificate in British Sign Language is assessed across three units: Receptive Skills (watching a signed BSL narrative and answering multiple choice questions), Productive Skills (a recorded 3 to 5 minute BSL presentation) and Conversational Skills (a recorded 6 to 7 minute BSL conversation). All assessments are externally assessed by Signature and can be conducted online.
Yes, successful learners receive the nationally recognised Level 2 Certificate in British Sign Language, awarded by Signature and regulated by Ofqual. The course is delivered by Professional Training Solutions in partnership with the Royal Association for Deaf people, and can support employment, career development and progression to higher level BSL qualifications.
