The Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Working in Mental Health is a nationally recognised qualification covering the role of the mental health worker, mental health conditions and issues, duty of care, approaches to care and management, and supporting individuals through change. It raises awareness of the processes and approaches involved in supporting those who experience mental ill health.
The course is suitable for anyone aged 19 and over who wants to understand the approaches to care and support of those with mental health needs, particularly those working or looking to work in health, social care, or community support roles. No prior qualifications are required, though a good level of English is needed.
The course is fully funded through the Adult Skills Fund for eligible adults aged 19 and over living in London or Buckinghamshire. London residents must generally earn no more than £14.85 per hour, with eligibility outside London linked to earning under £28,000 per year. All funding is subject to residency and eligibility checks at enrolment.
The course is delivered through a flexible blended learning model with online and paper based materials, supported by a dedicated tutor throughout. Assessment is through five mandatory units covering all learning outcomes, with no formal examinations required.
The qualification supports progression into roles including Mental Health Support Worker, Care Assistant, Community Support Worker, and Wellbeing Support Worker. It also provides a strong foundation for further training and career progression within mental health, health, and social care services.
