This course is part of our fully funded range of Level 2 courses so is free to the majority of learners – eligibility criteria applies.
Unit 1: Principles of safeguarding
Learn the definition of safeguarding and the national and local context of safeguarding and protection from abuse. Develop an understanding of the types of abuse and the duty of care through the principles that underpin safeguarding of children, young people and adults. Develop the skills needed to appropriately respond to a disclosure of abuse and what a person should do if a disclosure takes place.
Unit 2: The importance of British Values
Explore the principles of British Values and learn about the relevant legislation concerning human rights and counter-terrorism. Define the term liberty and the impact of terrorism, extremism and radicalisation. Learn how prevent duty supports British values.
Unit 3: The prevent duty and its importance in society
Define prevent and CONTEST and develop an understanding of the threat of terrorism. Learn key principles in duty and safeguarding including the factors which may make an individual susceptible to becoming radicalised and the actions, including reporting procedures, that should be taken if there are consents that a vulnerable individual or group may be at risk from radicalisation and more.
Unit 4: The importance of online safety
Discover the positive uses of internet activity as well as the surface web, deep web and dark web. Develop skills to identify individuals who may be vulnerable online and the risk of negative online activity. Learn the signs that an individual may be using the internet inappropriately, how an individual can be supported to change their online behaviour and more.

This course is fully free for eligible adults aged 19 and over living in London or Buckinghamshire, funded through the Adult Skills Fund. Funding is generally available to people who are unemployed or on a lower income and is subject to residency and eligibility checks when you enrol.
This is a nationally recognised qualification that develops knowledge of safeguarding responsibilities, the Prevent duty and the values that underpin life in modern Britain. It covers safeguarding children and adults at risk, recognising concerns, radicalisation and extremism, the Prevent strategy, democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance.
Organisations in sectors including education, healthcare, local authorities and public services have statutory responsibilities under the Prevent Duty, with relevant staff expected to understand their responsibilities. This qualification provides knowledge of safeguarding, Prevent and British Values to help learners understand their role in maintaining safe, inclusive and supportive environments.
This qualification is suitable for people working with children, young people or adults at risk across education, health and social care, Early Years, community services and public services. It is particularly valuable for Teaching Assistants, Early Years Practitioners, Care Workers, Support Workers, Safeguarding Leads and Youth Workers.
Most learners complete the qualification within 10 to 12 weeks through flexible blended learning, with online learning materials and dedicated tutor or assessor support. Assessment is completed through an online portfolio of evidence and knowledge based workbooks, with no formal examinations required.
