Course Overview

This qualification is designed to provide an introduction to neuroscience
from birth to seven years. It will support learners who are seeking a career
within the early years sector. Learners may also progress to further study.

This qualification aims to:

  • focus on the study of neuroscience in early years
  • offer breadth and depth of study, incorporating a key core of knowledge
  • provide knowledge for those seeking employment in the early years sector.

The objectives of this qualification are to:

  • support learners to gain an understanding of neuroscience in early years
  • support learners to progress to further and higher education
  • support the Practitioner role in the workplace.

Course Length: 16 weeks on average

Awarding Body: NCFE (E-certificates upon achievement)

Learning Method(s): High-quality knowledge workbooks & an assessment that enables learners to produce a portfolio of evidence covering all the learning outcomes associated with each unit.

There is no prior qualification needed to access this course.

This course is part of our fully funded range of Level 2 courses so is free to the majority of learners – eligibility criteria applies.

Eligibility criteria

This is a guide to the eligibility criteria for our funded courses. If you are unsure whether you are eligible, please get in touch with our team and we will be happy to help.

  • Learners must be aged 19 or over.
  • Learners must live in West Sussex, London, Surrey or Buckinghamshire.
  • Learners who are unemployed may also be eligible for full funding.
  • Learners must meet the relevant UK residency requirements for the duration of the course.
  • Learners must not be on a Skilled Worker visa, Sponsorship visa or Graduate visa.

If employed, learners must meet the relevant earnings threshold for their area and course level:

  • London: £28,860 per year or less.
  • Surrey and West Sussex: £26,800 per year or less.
  • Buckinghamshire Level 2: £26,800 per year or less.
  • Buckinghamshire Level 3: £31,427 per year or less.
  • Learners can be unemployed however Level 2 Mental Health in Early Years and Level 2 Adverse Childhood Experiences must be done in the workplace. Eligibility is subject to individual circumstances and will be confirmed as part of the enrolment process.

Progression Routes

Learners could progress to the following qualifications:

  • Level 2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner
  • Level 3 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Early Years Education and Care.

The qualification supports progression into roles including Nursery Assistant, Early Years Practitioner, Childcare Assistant, Preschool Assistant, and Teaching Assistant. It also provides a strong foundation for further training and career progression within early years education and childcare.
