Functional Skills helps you to learn Maths and English in practical ways with questions using real-life examples and situations. The most popular reason for choosing this course is if you need a Maths GCSE to apply for a specific job, promotion, university access, enrolling on to an apprenticeship, improving own skills and confidence or helping children with homework. You may need to work through the different levels to get to the desired level 2.

Yes. Functional Skills Maths Level 2 is equivalent to a GCSE grade 4 (grade C) and is widely accepted by employers, colleges, universities, and apprenticeship providers. The exam consists of two papers, calculator and non-calculator, graded as a pass or fail with no portfolio elements.
Yes. Functional Skills Maths is fully free for residents of London, Surrey and Buckinghamshire, funded by the government through the Adult Skills Fund. It can also be fully funded as part of an apprenticeship programme, depending on your age and employment status.
The programme runs for 11 weeks with weekly online sessions, homework, and a mock exam before the final assessment. Exams are held at our Farnham centre, designated local exam centres, or online with a proctor, with no portfolio elements required.
Functional Skills Maths is suitable for any adult looking to gain a maths qualification or improve their skills for work, further education, or everyday life. Every learner starts with an initial assessment to identify the right level, from Entry Level 1 through to Level 3.
The course covers whole numbers, fractions, decimals, percentages, shape and space, and problem solving, all taught through real-life examples relevant to work and daily life. Learners with additional needs such as dyslexia or dyscalculia are supported by both tutors and a dedicated SEND coach.
